What I See I Am

“FATHER”

"FATHER", this word in the prayer defines our relationship to God and God's relationship to us.  FATHER in one word defines God as best as an image can define the creator of that image.

Father, expresses, love, teacher, confidant, provider, protector, example (role model), authority figure, single supreme being.

As we evaluate the word father we must understand that the ultimate of father is expressed at birth to the child.  At birth the relationship to "father" is complete.  The father child relationship begins to change as the child begins to grow and express.  I have an entirely different relationship with my earthly father at ages 5 - 14 - 21 - 29 - 45, etc. than I did at birth.

We as humans are always "at birth".  We have no idea, nor any control over the next moment.  We are indeed in God's (OUR FATHER'S) hands.

The father passes on characteristics to the child, physical, mental, emotional.  We are created in God's own image.  We are God's image. We are all of the characteristics that God is. We are everything that God is.

Look at your image in a mirror.  Try to change the image.  You can not do it. You can reduce the light so you only see a portion of it, but we can not change the image.  It is not like a painting or a sculpture, they may be changed and molded, not the mirror image.

We try to be like the artist.  In our minds we create and image of who God is and who we are.  The image we create is always distorted, but we then go so far as to express that controlled perception of who we are and who God is, and that is not the truth.

It is "My God" versus "OUR FATHER".  There is an entirely different connotation to each.  "My God" limits God's expression to us and also our expression.  "OUR FATHER" allows us to accept the whole of GOD.  The truth is that it is not in our image that God is made, yet we do that.  The truth is it is in God's image that we are made.  This makes us so much more.

We limit our selves with the "My God" approach.  We consider ourselves sinners.  We judge ourselves and others.  This is not GOD'S IMAGE. God is absolute LOVE, without judgment.  Does a father judge the actions of a baby?  No!  "OUR FATHER", is no less.

I remember when my oldest son was just born and I was enjoying this marvelous child after a bath.  Well, as happens to most parents, this marvelous child wet and I was in the way, in fact my face was in the way. Given other circumstances what had just happened to me could be judged as a sin by one onto another.  Did I get upset, mad, judge? NO!  I enjoyed the moment and called to my wife to share it.  If I as a father can look upon this "judged sin" with joy and laughter can "OUR FATHER" do any less. NO!

We substitute "My God" for "OUR FATHER" and wonder why "THE FATHER" isn't more responsive.
